Mechanical Testing and Chemical Analysis of Fully Threaded Studs — ASM FASTENER’s Commitment to Quality
2025-10-28 17:24:51

In modern engineering, fully threaded studs play a vital role as essential connecting components across industries such as shipbuilding, petrochemical plants, offshore structures, and wind power equipment. They are not just fasteners — they are the backbone of structural integrity and safety.

With over 14 years of manufacturing experience, ASM FASTENER adheres to the principle of “Testing ensures quality, and quality builds trust.” Every stud bolt we produce undergoes comprehensive mechanical performance testing and chemical composition analysis to guarantee compliance with international standards and project specifications.

1. Mechanical Performance Testing — Ensuring Reliable Load Capacity

Mechanical testing is a key process to verify that fully threaded studs can safely withstand the required loads without deformation or failure. At ASM FASTENER, the following tests are routinely performed:

Tensile Test

Using a tensile testing machine, studs are subjected to axial tension to measure their yield strength, tensile strength, and elongation. This ensures the product maintains integrity under design loads and meets standards such as ASTM A193 and A320.

Torque Test

A calibrated torque wrench is used to determine the maximum torque the stud can safely endure during installation. This prevents thread damage or failure caused by over-torquing and guarantees secure assembly performance.

Impact Test

For materials used in low-temperature or dynamic environments (such as A320 L7 series), Charpy impact testing is conducted to assess toughness and resistance to sudden shock loads, ensuring reliability under extreme service conditions.

Hardness Test

Hardness testing, performed using Rockwell or Vickers hardness testers, evaluates the material’s strength and wear resistance. Consistent hardness across the product ensures long-term durability and structural stability.

2. Chemical Composition Analysis — Guaranteeing Material Integrity from the Source

The chemical makeup of the material directly determines the stud’s mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and service life. ASM FASTENER maintains strict control of raw material quality through the following analyses:

Elemental Analysis

Using advanced optical emission spectrometers (OES) or wet chemical methods, we verify the levels of critical elements such as Carbon (C), Manganese (Mn), Silicon (Si), Phosphorus (P), and Sulfur (S) to ensure full compliance with ASTM, DIN, and GB standards.

Corrosion Resistance Test

Surface protection is evaluated through salt spray testing (SST) and immersion corrosion tests. These assessments confirm the effectiveness of various coatings such as HDG (Hot-Dip Galvanizing), Dacromet, and Zinc plating, ensuring superior corrosion resistance in marine and chemical environments.

Material Verification

For critical projects or special grades, portable spectrometers and ultrasonic non-destructive testing (NDT) are used to verify material identity and batch traceability — eliminating any risk of material mix-up.

3. ASM FASTENER — Testing Every Stud, Safeguarding Every Connection

At ASM FASTENER, every inspection step is more than a test — it is a commitment to safety and reliability.
Our fully threaded studs are manufactured and tested in accordance with the world’s leading standards, including:
ASTM A193 B7/B7M/B16, ASTM A320 L7/L7M, A182 F316/304, and other customized grades.

Through continuous quality assurance, advanced testing, and strict material control, ASM FASTENER ensures that every connection we deliver is built to perform — securely, consistently, and for the long term.
